For some time rumours have circulated about a planned new hospital to be built in the area bounded by the A303, the M3, and the A34. This has now moved beyond rumour, and is currently undergoing discussion prior to public consultation.
This is part of a plan to reorganise the hospitals in North Hampshire, and create a new site which has easy and rapid access by road and air.
The Dever Society views this proposal in a different light from the opportunistic developments we are threatened with, because if the broader community needs a hospital and it is to be built in our area, we have to be prepared to make a sacrifice. However, we would want to see it sited and designed as sensitively as possible, so that it does not destroy the quality of the rural environment. We expect to get the latest news on this proposal shortly before the AGM, at which we will provide an update.
