Zurich Assurance Ltd, which owns much of the land surrounding Micheldever Station, has applied to the High Court in London to overturn Winchester City Council’s 20 year Local Plan. The current plan has no proposed new town development at Micheldever, so if Zurich is successful Winchester City Council could be forced to review its strategy and the whole issue of a new town at Micheldever could be back on the agenda.
Zurich’s case and Winchester Council’s rebuttal were presented at court in February, and we now await a final decision, which should be made in early March.
We are hoping the wills of local people and that of the democratically elected council are upheld, and that the High Court effectively closes the door on the chance of a new town.
With this issue at the heart of the Society’s interests, we will provide an update on the situation at the AGM on 19th March.
